Security Council, were just a small step towards what is ultimately needed to rein in Pyongyang over its nuclear and missile programs. The North's Foreign Ministry said the resolutions were an infringement on its legitimate right to self-defense and aimed at "completely suffocating its state and people through full-scale economic blockade".......

Trump says tougher steps needed on North Korea after new U.N. sanctions

By Roberta Rampton and David Brunnstrom WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday the U.N. sanctions on North Korea agreed this week were a small step and nothing compared to what would have to happen to deal with the country's nuclear program. U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin warned China, North Korea's main ally and trading partner, that if it did not follow through on the new measures, Washington would "put additional sanctions on them and prevent them from accessing the U.S. and international dollar system." Another senior administration official told Reuters any such "secondary sanctions" on Chinese banks and other companies were on hold for now to give time for China to show it was prepared to fully enforce the latest and previous rounds of sanctions.......

In Mexican town, women and 'muxes' take charge after massive quake

By David Alire Garcia JUCHITAN, Mexico (Reuters) - Destruction wrought by Mexico's massive earthquake has put a spotlight on the quasi-matriarchal indigenous traditions of the worst affected town, with women and third-gender 'muxes' playing a leading role in the aftermath of the disaster. Located in Mexico's narrow isthmus region, about 400 miles (644 km) southeast of capital Mexico City, Juchitan bore the brunt of the 8.1 magnitude earthquake that flattened thousands of buildings in the humid market town in a matter of seconds and took at least 98 lives nationwide. In vivid contrast to Mexico's macho, male-dominated society, travelers have noted since at least the 1800s the relative equality of Juchitan's mainly Zapotec men and women, as well as the prominence of muxes, Zapotecs born biologically male who mix gay and feminine identity.......

If her Twitter feed is anything to go by, J.K. Rowling probably gets asked somewhere in the region of several hundred Harry Potter-related questions a day. SEE ALSO: J.K. Rowling marks a huge 'Harry Potter' anniversary with a flurry of magical tweets There are some questions she's clearly had enough of, though. This recent revelation started when journalist Mark Harris asked Twitter the following question: You are trapped in an elevator with one other person. What is the worst way he can start a conversation? — Mark Harris (@MarkHarrisNYC) September 7, 2017 Rather than choosing from the poll options, though, Rowling came out with something that's clearly been bugging her for awhile.
